VE: Huge opportunity for young animators & digital artists

I’m writing to tell you about an opportunity that I think some of your talented animators and digital artists might love to be a part of. I work on a project called somewhereto_ which provides young people aged 16-25 with the space they need to do the things they love in their local areas - be it physical space or digital space. We’re currently teaming up with the BT Tower to showcase some short animations on the famous LED screens on the tower. It’s the most famous digital space in the UK and we want young animators and digital artists to submit short animations to be in with the chance of having their work showcased to thousands of people in our nation’s capital. Attached is a press release and flyer - if you think this is an opportunity that your students would be interested in, please forward them on. The flyer has all of the competition info on it, including how and where to enter. It’s open to young people nationwide aged 16-25. If you have any further questions, please dont hesitate to contact me. We look forward to receiving some wonderful entries from Nottingham Trent students! Many thanks, Amber & the somewhereto_ team. www.somewhereto.com www.somewhereto.com/BTTower www.twitter.com/somewhereto_

A word from our 2011 Jury Chairman - Toby Talbot

YoungGuns continues to confound me as an award show. It’s in its eleventh year. The first YoungGuns are now middle aged in advertising years. Which in turn makes me prehistoric, but let’s not dwell on that.

There’s something quite elitist about YoungGuns. Anyone can enter Cannes. Anyone can enter D&AD, One Show, the lot. But not just any old creative can enter YoungGuns.

The criteria is quite specific. It’s any young creative.

You have to have youth on your side and yet, paradoxically, your ideas have to show incredible maturity.

That’s why it’s such a great show.

When I judged YoungGuns a few years ago, I remember two things from those few days.

It was by far the most talented jury I have ever had the pleasure to sit on.

And the work was amazing. It challenged the status quo. As a specific award for young, emerging talent, it showed where our industry was going with ideas that were naive but brilliant, audacious but real.

Actually, three things. The hotel was shit where we judged. Guess you can’t have everything.
